What is work in a digital world?

Review

My final 2:12-minute Hope-Core video meets my statement of intent by using Premiere Pro (Adobe, n.d.) in a 9:16 format to ask, “What is work in a digital world?” Through two contrasting interviews: one optimistic, one cautious. Uplifting visuals, soothing ambient music (Golden Hour by Purrple Cat (Ampat, 2024)), and Impactful text overlays create an emotional arc that mirrors the Hopecore trend’s promise of comfort and resilience.

Because my target audience is digital workers and tech-savvy creatives, I interviewed friends who reflect their own experiences, ensuring the content resonates authentically. The social-media–style pacing and vertical aspect ratio also appeals directly to my target audience.

Strengths of the outcome include its engaging Hopecore-faithful aesthetic, the balance between hope and realism, and its ability to prompt reflection on digital work. Viewers are invited to consider both the freedoms and the anxieties of online labour.

Looking ahead, I would incorporate dynamic drone footage instead of slow zooms on still images to heighten visual interest as well as a more aesthetic interview backdrop—such as Manchester’s cityscape—to anchor the dialogue in a real digital community. I would also license “Dramamine” by Flawed Mangoes if possible, but I’m pleased with the copyright-free track I found.

Overall, this project successfully channels Hopecore’s empathy and optimism while honouring the complexities of work in a digital world.

My final Video (James Winstone, 2025) made using Adobe Premiere Pro replying to the question "What is work in a digital world?" in a Hopecore trend format.
